A historical archive tracing how malicious software evolved alongside computing itself: from early self-replicating experiments and floppy-disk viruses to worms, macro malware, botnets, ransomware, and the defensive techniques developed in response.

Educational context & safety boundary

This historical archive uses original browser-only presentation, conceptual simulations, and harmless visual demonstrations. All eight interactive labs are available.

It will not distribute or execute real malware samples, executable viruses, worms, trojans, ransomware, exploit payloads, or destructive code. Historical names may appear for context, never with operational code or reproduction instructions.

Exhibit briefing

Computer security history includes both curiosity-driven experiments and deliberately harmful activity. The lab will distinguish early self-replicating software, such as Creeper and the defensive Reaper, from later malware created to infect, disrupt, extort, or control systems.
